Choill Bheag - Native Irish Woodland in Ballyboy
All of the students at Scoil Bhríde were busy planting 330 native Irish trees on our school grounds. We have a hedge planted beside our big pitch which will shelter us (and stop the ball going into the field!) in the years to come. We also planted an outdoor living classroom behind our ball stopper. We have left a circular space in the middle of this mini forest so that in years to come we can explore, sit and study our living classroom. This was a massive project and we wouldn't have been able to complete it without all of the help, advice and assistance we received. Special thanks to William Coyne, John Gill and Seán Gill for moving the track, digging the soil for the hedge and having our grounds ready for planting to begin. Meabh, Claire and Aileen from Choill Bheag gave us so much support and advice. Meabh was able to source extra trees for our project to plant as our grounds were bigger than expected. Meabh, Claire and Aileen facilitated the planting and taught the children about tree planting and care over the 2 days they came to carry out the project. 21st-22nd of March. A huge THANK YOU to all of our students who worked so hard, planting, mulching and digging for the 2 planting days. All of the adults on site admired their teamwork, determination and work ethic as they got stuck in to all of the work.
