Let's sharpen our hurling and camogie skills!

Chest Catch:
  1. Here are the Key Points for the Chest Catch
  2. Adopt the Ready Position
  3. Hold the hurley in the dominant hand. Use a shortened grip if necessary
  4. Release the non-dominant hand from the hurl and hold it in a cupped position
  5. Hold the hurley in front of, and across, the body for protection
  6. As the ball approaches, move to receive it between the chest and cupped hand
  7. Relax the chest on impact to cushion the ball into a secure position
  8. Practice - have someone throw the ball underarm about 1m above your head. Move on to have them lightly striking the ball over you to chest catch.

The Dribble:
  1. Here are the Key Points for the Dribble
  2. Adopt the Ready Position
  3. Bend the back. Place the heel of the hurley on the ground
  4. The non-dominant hand, placed down the handle of the hurl guides the bas to control the sliotar
  5. Use alternate sides of the bas on every second stroke
  6. When proficient using two hands, use a one-handed dribble
  7. Practice - Dribble around cones and obstacles. Try to keep dribbling the ball while another player tries to rob it.

Stopping a ground ball
  1. Here are the Key Points for Stopping a Ground Ball
  2. Adopt the Ready Position
  3. Bend the knees and lower the non-dominant hand. The heel of the hurley rests on the ground. This is the blocking position on the strong side
  4. To block the ball between the legs move from the Ready Position to the Lifting Position
  5. Remain upright, bending the knees, lower the bas of the hurley to the ground
  6. Keep the legs together to block the ball if missed by the hurley
  7. Practice - Have another played roll the ball to you, then have then strike a ball to you. As you progress have one player run forwards and around a cone turning to striking the ball along the ground back to you to stop it.
