Ballyboy Irish Dancers in the World Championship
My name is Orla Kilmartin. I love dancing. My dancing teacher is Anne Callanan. Anne comes to our school in Ballyboy every Tuesday to teach dancing to us, from Infants right up to 6th class. She herself is a World Championship dancer and her daughter Ciara is a World Championship dancer, who at present dancing with River Dance. In March this year I was at the Irish Dancing World Championships in Glasgow. My sister Aoife was dancing on a team. Niamh Hayden in 6th class was dancing on the team too. It was very exciting. Their first dance was at 8.30am. They had to get up at 5am to get ready! They danced very well and after an intense wait, they were recalled to dance again. They knew then they were in with a chance of winning a world medal. And they did! They came 22nd in the world!! It was a fantastic experience and I hope I will represent Ireland someday soon too. It takes a lot of work, practice and sweat to reach this level. But I am as fit as a fiddle and feeling great!! ~Orla Kilmartin, 4th Class.
