We had a visit from a Judy, Enda and their Ewe who had her twin lambs with her. All of the children got to see the animals and talk to the Farmer Enda about caring for animals on a farm. Many thanks to Judy, Emma's Mammy, for arranging the visit. All of the children loved getting to see the animals up close and it was a wonderful hands on learning experience. Enda and Judy were very informative and we learned a lot about taking care of animals, farm safety and feeding animals. Our whole school has been busy learning about Farmer and Farmer Safety in Module 1 of our Farm Safe Schools project. In this module we learned the importance of preparing and staying safe when on a farm visit and what the various safety signs mean. We looked at key areas around the farm and the hazards relevant to these areas. In our 1st-6th classes we discussed what slurry is and why farmers must be careful when using it, electricity safety and the countryside code. Farmer health and wellness will also be discussed with the older classes.
