Proclamation Day Celebration
We held our annual Granny and Grandad's Day in conjunction with our Proclamation day as we felt it would be a great opportunity to get all of our community and friends together in celebration. Irish music and song filled the air and there was dancing at the crossroads at Scoil Bhríde, Ballyboy on March 15th. Proclamation Day commenced with mass Celebrated by Rev. Fr. Michael Walsh P.P. Parents, grandparents and friends of the school attended on what was a glorious Spring day. At the outset, senior classes read their interpretation of the proclamation and as a reflection Mr. P.J. Hayden, Board of Management and Chairperson of the parents committee, read the original 1916 version. An uileann piper, Mr. Tom Nolan, accompanied the raising of the flag by past pupils: Alo, Joe, John and Sr. Agnes (Nancy) Heffernan, a family who epitomise the wholesome spirit of Ballyboy. Current family members Conor and Daniel are the 4th generation to attend Scoil Bhríde. Then the entire school gathered hand on heart to sing a rousing rendition of "Ireland's Call" and "Amhrán na bhFiann". The day was wrapped up with a wonderful party provided by the parents committee. There was Irish Dancing, Set Dancing, Singing and Music playing all evening which was enjoyed in the beautiful weather by sipping tea and eating the beautiful home baked goods from all of the parents. Many thanks to all of the school community and the wider community for their help, support and presence at our proclamation day, it really was a great success.
